My Father, Garth Van Cura started Van Cura Painting as a single painter in 1967. He was mostly performing residential work for the first couple of years. After a few years, Garth started offering Commercial & Industrial work. He took a chance and walked into K-mart Corporation and asked if he could be on the bidders list. After his approval, and his win of many bids, this kick-started the company.
Garth hired a few more painters which were mostly family, and started a working relationship with Kresge’s, K-Mart, and Sears. As a family, we traveled job to job throughout Michigan, and all the southern states down to Florida. We have a long history of 30 years, and we became a key painting company for various facilities, including, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Winn Dixie, Nursing homes, factories, and office complexes.
Van Cura Painting believes in giving back to the less fortunate. The Founder of Rhema International, the late Patricia Beall Gruits, answered God’s call for her to build a hospital in Haiti. Garth was an Elder at Bethesda Missionary Church, and Patricia asked if we could help paint the church in Hati. Our father was 100% on board, and the project was completed for the people of Hati. Pamella Marsh, Daughter of Garth Van Cura, started painting with the company in 1978. Under his supervision and training, she worked in the field for many years.
In 1982, Pamella transferred into sales, and meets with current and potential customers to prepare bids. She now owns and operates the company, and Van Cura Painting is now a Certified Woman Owned Business and is proud to be painting in Metro Detroit and throughout Michigan. One of Pamella’s favorite projects was the Motown Museum, as she is a huge fan of the Motown area.
Second Generation – Robert Bilderbeck, Superintendent; the Grandson to Garth Van Cura, was trained under his guidance at the age of 16. Now Robert is fully experienced in the trades and has now brought his son into the family business for training.
Gratefully Yours,
Pamella Marsh
